Most people who love to have different ways to drink coffee will sooner or later purchase an espresso maker. With a good one, you can make all your favorite drinks such as a Latte, Americano or Cappuccino  in your own kitchen. You will be able to experiment and try out a new recipe or two. Since buying an espresso machine is going to be an investment, it is important that you do a little research first before you spend any money. The best way to do this is research is to find what features are available and then read reviews so you  can find the best machine for your needs and tastes.

Types of Espresso Makers:

Manual Espresso Makers: are going to require some work on your part in order to make the coffee. You will be measuring and grinding the beans, tamping them and then brewing the coffee. However, these types of espresso machines are the least expensive. A lot of coffee connoisseurs want to use only the manual machine.

Semi Automatic Machines: will do some of the work for you such as adjust the water pressure and temperature. You just have to grind and tamp the beans while the espresso machine does the rest of the work. They are of course a little more expensive than the manual machines, however, more affordable than a fully automatic one. If you like Cappuccino, then this type of machine is the one for you.

Automatic Machines: will make light work of making an espresso or any other type of espresso coffee. All you do is add the water and the beans, press a button or two, and your favorite coffee drink is made for you in a jiffy.

Super Automatic Machines: now if you want the entire process done for you, everything from grinding and tamping to the finished drink, then this is the right espresso machine for you to buy. These are the types of espresso machines that can be found in restaurants and coffee shops. They are going to be the most expensive of all of the machines.

Machines with Portioned Coffee Capsules: are great if you don’t want to mess around with beans, tampers and grinders.  Turn the machine on, add water, add a capsule, push a button and in a couple of minutes you have an excellent cup of espresso.  Some of the these machines come with a milk frother so it is very easy to make a Latte or Cappuccino.

Espresso Maker Features:

Different machines are of course going to have different features from machine to machine so when comparing two models, look at the features included with each to determine which will suit your needs and your budget better.

Bean Grinder:  is going to be included in the more expensive machines. It will be built in to the machine and the beans are ground for each individual cup. You will get great results since more flavor from the oils inside the beans will get into the coffee. As well you will have a fresh tasting drink of espresso.

Milk Frother: if you have to have a Latte or Cappuccino, then you will need a milk frother. Some come with a separate milk container while others will use a frothing wand.  The ones with the container are going to be more expensive.

Water Filter: this is a good feature if you don’t want to have chlorine or other chemicals in your water when you make an espresso. They are usually carbon filters and filtering your water will make a noticeable different in the taste of your coffee.

Cup Warmer: certainly and extra feature but not necessary for making a perfect drink.  However, if you like to have a hotter coffee, then this might be a feature to consider.

Hot Water Dispenser: an great feature if you like to make Americano or even want to  be able to make tea or hot chocolate with your machine.  These types of coffee maker are often found in restaurants and coffee shops.

Other Things to Consider:

  • Chose a steel or brass machines since some people can detect an aftertaste with aluminium espresso machines.
  • Check out the pump pressure on home espresso coffee makers since the more powerful pumps work with finer grounds. You will want to have at least 14 bars or more for pump pressure.
  • Look for a removable water tank since this will be much easier to add fresh water to the machine or for easy cleaning.

Whatever espresso coffee machine you chose, being able to make this delightful drink at home means you get to have a coffee anytime you want. Over time the machine will pay for itself making this purchase a good one for your budget.
